After nearly two months of relaxing and perfecting the lifestyle of doing nothing, my departure day got here before I even realized I was actually leaving. Looking ahead for the next six months is slightly daunting and exciting, but mostly just a very new feeling since I've never done anything quite like this. Goodbyes and big changes have always been a struggle for me and this was no exception, although it felt much different since it all still feels a little unreal to me. I am comforted by the fact that my host family seems very nice and I'll see some familiar faces of the other Umich students tomorrow at our language institute, but to use the best analogy I can think of, I feel a little like Alice falling down the rabbit hole...
I'm currently sitting in the Detroit airport using the "limited complementary" Wifi awaiting our plane to get here since it got a bit of a late start out of Chicago. Now of course I'm nervous because my connection in Newark is fairly short, but hopefully I can still make the flight! I decided to take advantage of my last couple hours in America and got a quick lunch from none other than McDonalds. :)
I will post again once I arrive safely, but until then: Auf Wiedersehen, Amerika!
PS: Let's hope that my love of animal print and purple doesn't make me look like an easy target for the common thief...
